That's a bit of a shock Adam.
My, and I'm sure all members', sympathies go to yourself and the family.

Re: John Stevenson

Very sad news about John, as per the announcement he will be greatly missed by all of us. My condolences to all the family for someone who was taken far too young.
Kind regards

Re: John Stevenson

Deepest condolences Adam , please pass on my sympathies to the family.

John was the nearest thing to a legend in the small online world of engineering, his knowledge and down to earth wit will be sourly missed.

Re: John Stevenson

I was shocked to hear this sad news. I only met John on one occasion, 'at home' in his workshop it was clear that he had real vision to add to his great skill as an engineer.

Re: John Stevenson

Thank you for the condolences, he will be missed but his knowledge will live on. I had the privilege  of getting the most of it and also giving him alot back too.

Re: John Stevenson

Really saddened to hear of John’s passing…

For me: He was one of the diminishing pool of “old school Engineers”…for whom…there was no such word as “can’t”…

An ever helpful man for whom, nothing was too much trouble…

I will miss him for his knowledge and his very dry (and quick) sense of humour…

My condolences to Adam, Debs and the Family…

Re: John Stevenson

What an intelligent and practical man we have lost.

What a good friend he became with his readiness to help and his astonishing wit.

All of these things added up to a unique mix, something to be valued - and he was.

I write here with tears in my eyes not only for John but for the cruelty of life that takes so many good people well before their time.

Be thankful to have known him, being able to stand in his shadow, as only we can next to someone so talented.

Every loss diminishes us.

Rest in peace John.

Re: John Stevenson

So sorry for your loss.
And we, the modelling community, have lost a great man also.
From time to time I have been looking at his posts here and elsewhere
and learned a lot from them. Soon I shall fix my Chipmaster carriage
following in his footsteps. He installed a DRO onto his Bantam.
And while doing so found ways to make it better.

Best wishes for you and the family,
Erik

Re: John Stevenson

During my time as a Toolroom manager at 2 companies John and I exchanged a few emails and he gave me some very inspirational solutions I or the guys that worked for me would never have considered.
Obviously a very clever man with that rare ability to think outside the box.
Thank you John, engineering has lost a good one

Re: John Stevenson

John gave me some really good help and advice when cutting my first gear. I sent him a thank you email and this is the reply he sent:

Just glad to help someone who is prepared to have a go. I had a lot of
help from some very clever guys when I first started, most dead now, and
it's a poor tale if you can't try to pass some information on, we don't
own it, we are only looking after it.

I think it sums him up perfectly.
Pete.
