Re: Workmans Canteen

As you may of noticed they is now a members group in the menu on the left. This group will contain the forum menu link and the user menu links for controlling your profile and looking for other peoples profiles.
Connections:
They is also now a connections system, this is a sort of friends list that is stored in your profile. You can request people to join your list so that you can find and email them quickly. You can find it on the menu in your profile, link in the members group on the menu. If you have a request awaiting your response then it will be in the workflow box on the left hand side just under the menu and above the login box.
Members List:
List of members so you can find your friends to request a connection or email them. The list also shows your forum ranking and karma score.
Karma Score
If someone gives you good advice give them some karma or if someone is acting like an idiot take it away from them. If your score gets to low we will look at why and you may even get a warning or we may even warn the person doing the bad karma for no good reason. It's a tool to help other rate the people on how helpful they are.

Re: Workmans Canteen

Sort of on the privicy thing you can now post in the information forum without having to have your name showing. It's called anonymous posting. You will still need a account to post but that's to stop the spammers and I'll know who you are if I dig in the database so no you still need to follow the simple rule. 'Be nice'

Re: Workmans Canteen

We have added privacy settings to the profiles so you can hide your date if birth and location from your profile. We have also added a activity field to the profiles that you can change without needing to edit your profile to change it. This is shown in the forum just under your picture, mine states 'Breaker of web sites'. You can update this as often as you want with what ever you are busy doing.

Re: Workmans Canteen

Adam.
I am a little puzzled by the user name. It seems a bit pointless when posts also contain my real name. Even more puzzling now that posts do not use the user name.

Many thanks for sorting out this site and forum.

Re: Workmans Canteen

The user name is in case of 2 John Smith's both would have a different user name. For some reason the side bar only show the user name once and then shows just the name, this is a known bug and is being worked on.

Re: Workmans Canteen

Hi.
Yes, I appreciate the need to distinguish individuals by having a unique user name, however, I would have expected that, in common with many other forums, a "user" name to be the name that was actually "used" on the public face of the forum and the personal, real name to be kept hidden!

Re: Workmans Canteen

I work on a few forums and the ones that need the least moderation are the ones on which you are known by your name. It also allows people to use your real name when addressing you in posts as they would if they meet you in real life. The user name is only used because I couldn't be bothered trying to remove it.
The internet is full of people that just like to hide behind a name and then belittle other people, we are like minded people that enjoy hobbies in or around the home workshop and want to talk about them or ask questions. That's why we use the name system.

In the next few days the sub-categories in the information category will be moving to the projects category. This is to allow the advert system to find new information posts in there. Information posts will be monitored just like the other adverts.

Re: Workmans Canteen

Well I'm back and adding some new features to the site. Please make a new topic if you have any ideas for improvements that you think we could use. Just don't ask removal of the moderation for all users, we offer this site for free because we get first access to the bargins.

  1. Times in the RSS feed.

  2. Information adverts get posted to the forum.

  3. No more spaces in the links.

  4. List is now working again, to use put
at the beginning of the first item and
at the end of the last line, each new line will be an item.
    You can also put:

  5.
for numbers
for letters
for roman numbers

  6. Adverts by traders that have paid for the service will be in trade green and be listed first for 3 days after which time the will follow the normal sorting order.

  7. Sorted the issue with hotmail, live and outlook blocking emails.

Re: Workmans Canteen

Updated the image sizes that you can upload in the adverts you can now upload a 1920 x 1080 image but the total size of all 4 images must be less then 10MB. This now means that we will not allow adverts that do not have an image and state email for photos, if you have more than 4 photos then you can advertise that you have more and upload the best 4.
You can download simple tools to resize and the modern windows have a tool built in.
