Windows has a nice powertoy for XP only to resize your images for uploading to the site. It is quick and easy to use if you want to try it you can download it from Microsoft's site here

For Vista  / Windows 7 both 32 & 64 bit users they is a clone tool here. Just use the custom and set 800 x 800 it will sort out the ratio for you.
